"Thou shalt call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins.... And they shall call His name EMMANUEL, which being interpreted is, God with us" (Matthew 1:21,23).
How great was our need
When our Lord Jesus came
That He met indeed
Through each marvelous name!
They called His name JESUS:
From our sins He would save.
From judgment He freed us
And He conquered our grave!
EMMANUEL also,
Meaning here: God with us.
He never will leave those
Who will in His name trust!
Christ JESUS, our Savior,
Our EMMANUEL, Lord,
We thank You for favor
That Your names thus afford!
How matchless Your names are,
And how comforting too!
For we who were once far,
Are now brought near to You!
