"Now these be the last words of David. David... the sweet psalmist of Israel said, the Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and His word was in my tongue" (2 Samuel 23:1,2). "As for man, His days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.... But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him, and His righteousness unto children's children" (Psalm 103:15-17, A Psalm of David).
The days of David ran their course;
How briefly he was young,
And yet God's Word retains its force
And sweetness from his tongue.
As David likened all our days
To grass and fading flowers,
So it is; our pomp and praise
Declines with all our powers.
How good it is to know the truth
That blesses and assures;
The Word of God, unlike our youth,
Forevermore endures!
His mercy is from everlasting
Throughout eternity,
Unlike the fleeting things contrasting
That human eyes can see.
Thank You, Lord, for David's Psalms
With promises that last
With all Your precious Word that calms
And keeps us standing fast.
