Take Heed of the Tempted Heart

"God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much" (1 Kings 4:29).  "O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of His praise to be heard, which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved" (Psalm 66:8,9).  "The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe" (Proverbs 18:10).  "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall… but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able" (1 Corinthians 10:12,13). 

The wisdom God gave Solomon

With understanding's sure foundation,

Exceeded all, for there were none

Who equaled him in any nation. 

Yet even then, it was the Lord

Who held his soul through all his life. 

He needed more than strength by sword,

But God to rescue him from strife. 

The name of Christ is our strong tower

Who will protect us from temptation. 

We are not stayed by our own power,

But by the Lord of our salvation. 

Lord, You have warned us to take heed,

Lest we should fall with tempted heart.

How perfectly You meet our need

With grace to stand that You impart!
