Shielded from Shame

"Now when Mephibosheth (Heb. breathing shame)… was come unto David… David said unto him, Fear not… thou shalt eat bread at my table continually" (2 Samuel 9:6,7).  "O clap your hands, all ye people… for the shields of the earth belong unto God: He is greatly exalted" (Psalm 47:1,9).  "He is a Shield unto them that put their trust in Him" (Proverbs 30:5).  "O wretched man that I am!  Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 7:24,25).

Mephibosheth to David came,
For he would eat at David's table.
The king would shield him from shame
As he had promised and was able.

We see a portrait of our Savior
Who shields us from shame as well,
For all who trust in Christ find favor
With grace that saves the soul from hell.

O clap your hands to thus applaud
Our Lord who was victorious!
The shields of our gracious God
Protecting us are glorious!

We thank You, Lord of our salvation,
For dying for us on the cross
To shield us from condemnation,
From shame, and from eternal loss!
