Freedom from Fretting

"David was greatly distressed… but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God" (1 Samuel 30:6).  "Fret not thyself because of evildoers… Trust in the LORD… Delight thyself also in the LORD… Commit thy way unto the LORD… Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him… the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: He is their strength in the time of trouble.  And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: He shall deliver them…and save them, because they trust in Him" (Psalm 37:1-7,39,40).

Instead of fretting, we should pray
And trust the Lord to find His rest.
This principle was on display
When David greatly was distressed.

When there was no more strength to fight
And David saw his friends depart,
He found his courage and delight
In God who strengthened then his heart.

How often do we tend to fret
Instead of trusting God alone?
We're called to pray and not forget
The help He sends from heaven's throne.

We thank You for this freedom, Lord,
From fretting as we trust in You
And thereby find our strength restored
To do what we are called to do.
