Defeating Doubt

“That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.  Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, that I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?” (Proverbs 22:19-21).  “Thus saith the LORD… I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them… I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart” (Ezekiel 11:5,19).  “The eleven disciples went… where Jesus had appointed them.  And when they saw Him, they worshipped Him: but some DOUBTED.  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying… Go ye therefore, and teach all nations… and, lo, I am with you always” (Matthew 28:16-20).

Detecting and defeating doubt
Must be accomplished by God’s Word,
For God has surely searched this out;
Our every thought by Him is heard.

It’s not for lack of evidence
That hearts may doubt what God has said:
Integrity with common sense
Should cause our hearts to trust instead.

Has not the Lord foreseen our need
To trust His truth in every season,
Providing Scriptures we may read,
Replacing doubt with solid reason?

That He might give us certainty
And teach this also to our youth,
The Lord fulfilled each prophecy
To thus authenticate His truth.

The things that come into our mind
Are not concealed from the Lord;
He’s not surprised if He shall find
That evidence has been ignored.

He will revive a wiser spirit;
He will replace a stony heart.
He gives His truth if we will hear it,
So doubt detected may depart.

The Lord could see by His detection
That doubt was present in His own
When He appeared, post resurrection,
Beholding then their hearts of stone!

Yet others worshiped in that light
Recalling what Christ said and did.
How great this darkness is we fight,
That truth could even then be hid!

O Lord, we need You everyday
To shine Your light in every place
Within our hearts, so prone to stray,
When darkness hides from us Your face.

The choices, Lord, that we have found
Are either doubt or adoration.
We see that there’s no middle ground
As we consider Your salvation.

We thank You, Lord, for truth so plain
That doubt may rightly be reproved
As so absurd, it is insane,
Since by Your light it is removed.

O send us forth, Lord, to declare
The truth that makes us free from sin,
From fear, from doubt, and from despair
The moment that You enter in!
