"He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame" (Proverbs 10:5). "The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.... Astonishment hath taken hold on me. Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?" (Jeremiah 8:20-22).
Behold, the summer season ends,
Yet many stray like sheep!
The Lord of all the harvest sends,
Yet many workers sleep!
Behold the harvest fields white:
We lift our eyes to see,
Yet soon the day gives way to night,
And then eternity.
Lord, stir us with astonishment,
Before our day is past,
That You may find us diligent
In reaping souls at last.
