Delivered by Decision

"If it had not been the LORD who was on our side… Then the waters had overwhelmed us… Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers" (Psalm 124:2-7).  "Deliver thyself… as a bird from the hand of the fowler… For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life" (Proverbs 6:5,23).  "Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things… but with the precious blood of Christ… being born again… by the Word of God" (1 Peter 1:18-23). 

If not for the Lord on our side,

If not for His life-saving Word,

We know that our souls would have died,

But now we've escaped as a bird! 

Our souls have escaped by decision

To hear and to heed the Lord's voice.

The light of His Word gave us vision

And graciously gave us a choice. 

As sinners we cannot applaud

Ourselves for achieving salvation,

For we have been ransomed by God,

Who purchased our justification. 

O Lord, Your decision of love

Delivered our souls which were cursed. 

Before judgment came from above,

Your mercy and truth met us first!
