"Except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. It is vain for you to… sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so He giveth His beloved sleep" (Psalm 127:2). "By mercy and truth iniquity is purged" (Proverbs 16:6). "Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me… Who is a God like unto Thee, that pardoneth iniquity?... He will subdue our iniquities; and Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea" (Micah 7:7,18,19). "Who is this that forgiveth sins also?" (Luke 7:49).
It's vain for us
to sit up late
In restless
worry, losing sleep,
When we are
called to trust and wait
On Christ, the
Shepherd of His sheep.
Our greatest
problem, after all,
A battle we
could never win,
Was our undoing
at the fall,
But grace and
truth has purged our sin.
The Lord subdued
iniquity
By laying down
His life for us.
Our sins are
cast into the sea;
Is not our
Savior marvelous?
The problem of
our sin, O Lord,
Was solved so
perfectly by You!
You paid what we
could not afford:
Your blood has
purged our sins from view.
