“And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him” (Deuteronomy 18:21-22). “He showed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God” (Acts 1:3).
If
someone should honestly say in his heart:
How
shall we know what the Lord has not spoken?
The
way that we set the false prophets apart
Is
simply by seeing their prophecies broken.
Praise
God for the wonderful means that He gave
By
many infallible proofs to discern
The
Word of the Gospel of Christ that will save
And
transform our lives by the truth that we learn.
O
Lord, we give thanks for the certainty known
In
words that Your prophets so clearly declared,
And
also in proofs that You showed to Your own,
By
which You equipped those You boldly prepared!
O
Lord, though we’re found in this late generation,
We’re
hearing You speak with the same certainty
As
those You emboldened by Your demonstration
With
many infallible proofs they could see!
