“Except
the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh
but in vain” (Psalm 127:1). “Hear Me now
therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of My mouth…. lest thou
give… thy years unto the cruel… and thy labors be in the house of a stranger,
and thou mourn at the last when thy flesh and thy body are consumed” (Proverbs
5:7-11). “He that speaketh of himself
seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh
His glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him”
(John 7:18).
A
house constructed by the Lord,
A
city kept by God’s defense,
Shall
have His refuge and reward:
The
fruit of our obedience.
O
Lord, inspect this house and tell
Your
servants how we ought to build.
Inspect
our ranks, O Lord, as well,
That
all Your foes may thus be stilled.
The
other choice we have is plain:
To
trust our strength till it's depleted,
And
thus to labor all in vain
And
in the battle be defeated.
O
Lord, we thank You for the choice
To
trust in You, and You alone,
To
hear and to obey Your voice,
And
thereby make Your glory known.
