Simplicity vs. Subtlety

"O send out Thy light and Thy truth: let them lead me.... Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy" (Psalm 43:3,4). "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ" (2 Corinthians 11:3).

Light and truth from God will lead
In only one direction:
To Jesus Christ, who met our need
With singular perfection.

Light and truth lead to the cross,
The altar of our God,
Where other gain is seen as loss,
And other glory flawed.

Light and truth will lead to Christ
And simply thus display
That He alone was sacrificed
To take our sins away.

Light and truth expose the lies
That subtlety deceive,
As Satan, like a serpent, tries
To snare us, just like Eve.

Thank You, Lord for truth and light
That save and set us free,
Which fill our vision with the sight
Of Christ's simplicity.
