"David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight this Philistine" (1 Samuel 17:32). "The Captain of their salvation... through sufferings... took part of the same, that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage" (Hebrews 2:14,15).
There is no reason now to fear
Or for our hearts to fail;
The Captain of our souls was here
To fight and to prevail!
Praise our Captain of salvation!
Through death He has destroyed
The devil by His confrontation
And suffering He employed!
Our souls were rightly once afraid
As death before us loomed!
Our debt for sin could not be paid;
We were forever doomed!
Our Captain fought to make us free
From judgment sin must bring;
He bore our sin at Calvary
And took away death's sting!
Lord, we thank You that You came
To fight with Your last breath,
To bear away our sin our shame
And all the sting of death.
