Verified Vows

Read:  Psalm 56 / Proverbs 11 / 2 Chronicles 26 / Hebrews 8

Psalm 56:12,13 ~ Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

Proverbs 11:4 ~ Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

2 Chronicles 26:5 ~ And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.

Hebrews 8:10-12 ~ This is the covenant... all shall know me... For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

The vows of Christ now rest on me:

That I might live, my Savior died!

The truth of Christ has made me free

By all His vows He verified!

In every circumstance I face,

In times of peace or in distress,

I’m resting in His saving grace

And trusting in His faithfulness.

Intimate Intercession

Read:  Psalm 55 / Proverbs 10 / 2 Chronicles 25 / Hebrews 7

Psalm 55:16,17,22 ~ As for me, I will call upon God... Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice... Cast thy burden upon the LORD.

Proverbs 10:2,22 ~ Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death... The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

2 Chronicles 25:1,2 ~ Amaziah ... did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.

Hebrews 7:25 ~ Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

I know the Lord shall hear my voice

Whenever I will lift my prayer.

In this assurance I rejoice,

And I will cast on Him my care.

How intimate the intercession

Of Christ my risen Savior is

Who rescued me from my transgression

And ransomed me to call me His!

An Anchor

Read:  Psalm 54 / Proverbs 9 / 2 Chronicles 24 / Hebrews 6

Psalm 54:4,7 ~ Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul... He hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.

Proverbs 9:6,10 ~ Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding... The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

2 Chronicles 24:19 ~ Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.

Hebrews 6:18,19 ~ It was impossible for God to lie... we... have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us... as an anchor of the soul.

We have an anchor in our Savior

Who gave His life that we might live.

His Word is guiding our behavior

With wisdom He alone can give.

We have an anchor in salvation

Because our Savior cannot lie.

In Him we have our consolation

In life as well as when we die.

Faithless Fools

Read:  Psalm 53 / Proverbs 8 / 2 Chronicles 23 / Hebrews 5

Psalm 53:1 ~ The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they... there is none that doeth good.

Proverbs 8:5 ~ O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

2 Chronicles 23:16 ~ Jehoiada [Heb. Jehovah-known] made a covenant... that they should be the LORD'S people.

Hebrews 5:14 ~ Them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use... discern both good and evil.

The fool may say, "There is no God"

And say it loudly all day long

While other faithless fools applaud,

But soon they'll know that they were wrong.

Let us who are redeemed be wise

With faithful hearts of full surrender,

Redeeming time (how soon it flies!)

To magnify our soul’s Defender.

Goodness of our God

Read:  Psalm 52 / Proverbs 7 / 2 Chronicles 22 / Hebrews 4

Psalm 52:1 ~ Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.

Proverbs 7:1-2 ~ My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

2 Chronicles 22:3 ~ He [Ahaziah] also walked in the ways of...  Ahab: for his mother was his counselor to do wickedly.

Hebrews 4:12 ~ The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing... dividing asunder of soul and spirit... a discerner of the... intents of the heart.

The goodness of our God endures

To keep us from Satanic snares.

The faithfulness of God secures

Our trust in all His Word declares.

We dare not follow the seduction

Of counsel that excludes our Lord.

God’s Word is true, and His instruction

Is sharper than a two-edge sword.

Resilience vs. Resistance

Read:  Psalm 51 / Proverbs 6 / 2 Chronicles 21 / Hebrews 3

Psalm 51:10,12 ~ Create in me a clean heart... renew a right spirit within me... Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation.

Proverbs 6:20,23 ~ My son, keep thy father's commandment... For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

2 Chronicles 21:12 ~ There came a writing to him [Jehoram] from Elijah... saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David... thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father.

Hebrews 3:7,8 ~ Wherefore, as the Holy Ghost saith, Today if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness.

We hear in David's tearful plea

His prayer that he might be restored.

In his correction we can see

Our own resilience from the Lord.

Resistance in the hearts yet hardened

Reflects the mindset of the lost:

They find no joy in being pardoned,

Nor do they stop to count the cost.

Silently Searching

Read:  Psalm 50 / Proverbs 5 / 2 Chronicles 20 / Hebrews 2

Psalm 50:21 ~ These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee and set them in order before thine eyes.

Proverbs 5:21 ~ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

2 Chronicles 20:35,37 ~ And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly... Then Eliezer... prophesied against Jehoshaphat.

Hebrews 2:1 ~ Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

The silence of the Lord is kept,

Yet He is searching every thought.

Though some may think that God has slept,

They soon shall find that He has not.

Beware, for even godly kings

Were careless in their fellowship.

Take care, and think upon these things,

Lest we should let God’s counsel slip.

Light for the Lost

Read:  Psalm 49 / Proverbs 4 / 2 Chronicles 19 / Hebrews 1

Psalm 49:1,7,15 ~ Hear this... give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world... None... can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him... But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.

Proverbs 4:18,19 ~ The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

2 Chronicles 19:7 ~ Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

Hebrews 1:1-3 ~ God... hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son... Who... when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.

The Lord has sent us with His Word

To high and low, to rich and poor

So that the Gospel may be heard

With light that shines still more and more.

The Lord for all was sacrificed,

And for this reason, we have urged

The lost to flee to Jesus Christ,

For by His grace our sins are purged.
