Triumphant Trust

Read:  Psalm 49 / Proverbs 17 / Judges 4 / Mark 6

Psalm 49:6,7,15 ~ They that trust in their wealth... none of them can... redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom... But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave.

Proverbs 17:17 ~ A Friend loveth at all times, and a Brother is born for adversity.

Judges 4:14 ~ Up; for this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered... Is not the LORD gone out before thee?

Mark 6:56 ~ As many as touched him were made whole.

Triumphant trust belongs to those

Who have received our Lord and Savior

Who robbed the grave of all its woes

When He redeemed us with His favor.

O what a Friend we have in Christ

Who gave Himself to save our soul!

The Lamb of God was sacrificed,

And thereby He has made us whole.

Largeness of His Lovingkindness

Read:  Psalm 48 / Proverbs 16 / Judges 3 / Mark 5

Psalm 48:9 ~ We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.

Proverbs 16:6 ~ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

Judges 3:15 ~ But when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer.

Mark 5:19 ~ Go home... and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

The lovingkindness of our Lord

Is larger than we understand!

No other love could thus afford

The ransom that our Lord had planned.

Behold the largeness of that love

From Him who came in such a fashion:

Descending from His throne above,

Christ rescued us with His compassion!

Marvel at the Man

Read:  Psalm 47 / Proverbs 15 / Judges 2 / Mark 4

Psalm 47:7 ~ God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.

Proverbs 15:14 ~ The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge.

Judges 2:10 ~ There arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done.

Mark 4:41 ~ They feared exceedingly, and said... What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

We rightly marvel at the Man,

Our God and King of all the earth,

As we have understood His plan

To give to us a second birth.

Consider what the Lord has done,

And teach it to this generation!

Behold the manner of God’s Son

Who gave Himself for our salvation!

Be Still and Be Strong

Read:  Psalm 46 / Proverbs 14 / Judges 1 /Mark 3

Psalm 46:10 ~ Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Proverbs 14:26 ~ In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

Judges 1:28 ~ When Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

Mark 3:27 ~ No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.

The Lord commands us to be still,

But never let His praise be halted,

And be assured He shall fulfill

His word that He shall be exalted.

The Lord Himself is our Defense,

Who calls His servants to be strong.

Our God shall be our Confidence,

Who guides and guards us all day long.

Day of Decision

Read:  Psalm 45 / Proverbs 13 / Joshua 24 /Mark 2

Psalm 45:10,11 ~ Incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house; so shall the King greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou Him.

Proverbs 13:8 ~ The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

Joshua 24:15 ~ Choose you this day whom ye will serve... but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Mark 2:17 ~ I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

The day of decision is here;

Let no other matter seem higher.

The choice we should make is now clear,

In view of our Savior's desire.

Each day our decision is made

To follow Christ Jesus our Lord.

In view of our ransom He paid,

How rightly our King is adored!

Perfect Path

Read:  Psalm 44 / Proverbs 12 / Joshua 23 /Mark 1

Psalm 44:8,21 ~ In God we boast all the day long... Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

Proverbs 12:28 ~ In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

Joshua 23:11 ~ Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God.

Mark 1:17 ~ And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

In God we're boasting all day long,

For He delivered us from wrath.

To Christ we lift our grateful song

Who leads us on His perfect path.

How right it is to take good heed

To love the Lord in our behavior,

To follow Him where He will lead,

And show the lost our perfect Savior.

His Altar and His Ascension

Read:  Psalm 43 / Proverbs 11 / Joshua 22 / Mat. 28

Psalm 43:4 ~ Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy... upon the harp will I praise thee, O... my God.

Proverbs 11:30 ~ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Joshua 22:31,34 ~ This day we perceive that the LORD is among us...it shall be a witness... that the LORD is God.

Matthew 28:5,6 ~ Jesus which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Upon an instrument of strings,

I’ll praise my Savior Jesus Christ,

As He to my remembrance brings

The cross where He was sacrificed.

Beyond His altar and His grave,

To His ascension I am led.

Our Lord forever lives to save

And shall return, as He has said.

Merciful Memory

Read:  Psalm 42 / Proverbs 10 / Joshua 21 / Mat. 27

Psalm 42:7 ~ Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

Proverbs 10:7,22 ~ The memory of the just is blessed... The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

Joshua 21:45 ~ There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto...  Israel; all came to pass.

Matthew 27:46 ~ And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (cf. Psalm 22)

The wrath of God with all its waves

Came crashing down on Jesus Christ

To thus impart the grace that saves

When He for us was sacrificed.

How merciful this memory is!

How deep His love is that we view!

He paid the price to make us His

When all His promises came true.

Lying Foe vs. Loving Friend

Read:  Psalm 41 / Proverbs 9 / Joshua 20 / Mat. 26

Psalm 41:9,11 ~ Mine own familiar friend... which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me... I know that thou favorest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.

Proverbs 9:5,12 ~ Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled… if thou scornest, thou... shalt bear it.

Joshua 20:2 ~ Appoint out for you cities of refuge... until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days.

Matthew 26:24-28 ~ Then Judas... betrayed him... Jesus took bread, and blessed it… And he took the cup… saying, Drink ye all of it; for this is my blood… for the remission of sins.

Behold the lying foe betraying

Our Savior dining at His side,

Exactly as our Lord was saying

When Judas was identified.

Behold the loving Friend we find

In Christ as we are sweetly able

To worship Him as we have dined

With bread and wine upon His table.

Thoughts from the Throne

Read:  Psalm 40 / Proverbs 8 / Joshua 19 / Mat. 25

Psalm 40:5,17 ~ Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward… yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer.

Proverbs 8:23,31 ~ From everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was... my delights were with the sons of men.

Joshua 19:50 ~ According to the word of the LORD they gave him the city which he [Joshua] asked…and he… dwelt therein.

Matthew 25:34 ~ Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

The thoughts of God are marvelous

That He reveals from His throne.

How merciful He is to us

To make His lovingkindness known!

From everlasting ages when

Our God foresaw us in creation,

The Lord delighted in us then

And so prepared for us salvation.

Need Now

Read:  Psalm 39 / Proverbs 7 / Joshua 18 / Mat. 24

Psalm 39:7 ~ Now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

Proverbs 7:24 ~ Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

Joshua 18:3 ~ How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?

Matthew 24:42 ~ Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

What wait I for?  What do I need?

The need now is to do God’s will.

With precious souls I therefore plead

While there is hope to save them still.

I do not know the day nor hour

That Christ my Lord is coming back,

But now He gives me grace and power

To do His will and not be slack.

Desire and Decision

Read:  Psalm 38 / Proverbs 6 / Joshua 17 / Mat. 23

Psalm 38:9,15 ~ Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee... For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

Proverbs 6:20-23 ~ My son, keep thy father's commandment... For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

Joshua 17:12,16,18 ~ The children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land... Thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

Matthew 23:37 ~ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

The Lord has seen my heart's desire

And each decision I pursue.

What does the Lord my God require?

What He commands me, I would do.

Let every action, word, and thought

Conform to what the Lord would choose.

“I would”, said Christ, “and ye would not,"

To many called who yet refuse.

Perfecting our Peace

Read:  Psalm 37 / Proverbs 5 / Joshua 16 / Mat. 22

Psalm 37:37,40 ~ Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace... The LORD shall help them, and deliver them... because they trust in him.

Proverbs 5:7-11 ~ Hear me now therefore... lest thou give thine honor unto others, and thy years unto the cruel... and thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed.

Joshua 16:4,10 ~ The children of Joseph... drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

Matthew 22:37 ~ Jesus said... Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

There is an end to each beginning,

For time that moves us, does not cease.

There is a consequence for sinning,

But trusting God perfects our peace.

How great the grace is from above

Whereby our peace may be refined

As to our God we give our love

With all our heart, our soul, and mind.
