Heaven's Holiness

Read:  Psalm 76 / Proverbs 13 / 1 Samuel 6 / Luke 17

Psalm 76:8,9 ~ Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still, when God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.

Proverbs 13:8 ~ The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

1 Samuel 6:20 ~ Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us?

Luke 17:26 ~ And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

When heaven's holiness above

Was mocked by those who had been warned,

The people who refused God's love

Experienced the wrath they scorned.

The Lord provides a ransom still

Which Jesus Christ alone could pay,

But those who yet resist His will

Shall be like those in Noah's day.

Wrong about Wrath

Read:  Psalm 75 / Proverbs 12 / 1 Samuel 5 / Luke 16

Psalm 75:7,8 ~ God is the Judge... For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture... the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall ... drink them.

Proverbs 12:19 ~ The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

1 Samuel 5:11 ~ There was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

Luke 16:31 ~ If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Though scorners mock our Savior now

Upon their momentary path,

Soon every knee to Him shall bow,

And no one, then, shall doubt His wrath.

Eternity is very long;

This ought to make us stop and think!

For God shall prove all liars wrong,

Who from His cup of wrath shall drink.

Reproaching or Repenting

Read:  Psalm 74 / Proverbs 11 / 1 Samuel 4 / Luke 15

Psalm 74:22 ~ Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.

Proverbs 11:3 ~ The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

1 Samuel 4:17 ~ Israel is fled before the Philistines...there hath been also a great slaughter among the people... thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead...the ark of God is taken.

Luke 15:10 ~ Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

The Lord shall surely plead His cause

Against those who reproach His name.

He shall not set aside His laws

For those who boast about their shame.

The Philistines by God were sent,

As He was making then His case.

Let sinners see this and repent,

For those who do, He saves by grace.

Compel them to Come!

Read:  Psalm 73 / Proverbs 10 / 1 Samuel 3 / Luke 14

Psalm 73:28 ~ It is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.

Proverbs 10:5 ~ He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

1 Samuel 3:19 ~ And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

Luke 14:23 ~ Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

There is a work that cannot wait

As death and judgment yet draw near.

The Gospel we communicate

Should make our Savior’s mercy clear.

His words convey the joyful sound

That rescues sinners from their sin.

In Christ there is a Refuge found;

Let us compel them to come in!

When Christ Will Come

Read:  Psalm 72 / Proverbs 9 / 1 Samuel 2 / Luke 13

Psalm 72:7-9 ~ In his days shall the righteous flourish... He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth… His enemies shall lick the dust.

Proverbs 9:10,12 ~ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom... If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

1 Samuel 2:10,30 ~ The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces... The LORD saith... them that honor me I will honor, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

Luke 13:34 ~ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

The enemies of Christ abound,

But soon His foes shall lick the dust.

In Christ alone is safety found;

In Him we confidently trust.

When Christ will come for His redeemed,

We'll gladly praise Him as we ought,

But scorners shall not be esteemed

Who should have come, but they would not.

Offer of the Older

Read:  Psalm 71 / Proverbs 8 / 1 Samuel 1 / Luke 12

Psalm 71:18,19 ~ Now also when I am old... O God, forsake me not; until I have showed thy strength unto this generation... to every one that is to come... O God, who is like unto thee!

Proverbs 8:11 ~ For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

1 Samuel 1:27,28 ~ For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him: therefore... he worshiped the LORD there.

Luke 12:20,21 ~ But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

I know that I am growing older,

Yet while the Lord shall give me breath,

My offer should be wiser, bolder

To show His truth before my death.

I prayed for children, whom God gave,

And now I am responsible

To show them Christ who died to save

And satisfy their hungry soul.

Dispelling Darkness

Read:  Psalm 70 / Proverbs 7 / Ruth 4 / Luke 11

Psalm 70:4 ~ Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.

Proverbs 7:2 ~ Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

Ruth 4:14 ~ Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.

Luke 11:34 ~ The light of the body is the eye: therefore, when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

Let all who love our Lord's salvation

Remember why our Savior died.

Let hearts be filled with adoration,

And let our God be magnified!

Let Christ our Kinsman fill our vision,

Dispelling darkness from our sight,

Removing thoughts of indecision,

And filling us with love and light.

Chance to Choose

Read:  Psalm 69 / Proverbs 6 / Ruth 3 / Luke 10

Psalm 69:21,30 ~ They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink... I will praise the name of God with a song... magnify him with thanksgiving.

Proverbs 6:3 ~ Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself... go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

Ruth 3:1,5 ~ Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?... She said... All that thou sayest unto me I will do.

Luke 10:42 ~ But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Our Savior knew what He would do

To save us from eternal loss.

Before He made the earth, He knew

That He would suffer on the cross.

The Lord now gives to every heart

The chance to choose Him as their Friend,

To find that good and needful part

Of grace He freely will extend.

Hearing Him

Read:  Psalm 68 / Proverbs 5 / Ruth 2 / Luke 9

Psalm 68:19-20 ~ Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation...  and unto GOD the Lord belong the issues from death.

Proverbs 5:7-9 ~ Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth... lest thou give thine honor unto others, and thy years unto the cruel.

Ruth 2:10 ~ Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?

Luke 9:35 ~ And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

I need to hear my Savior's voice

Who daily speaks to me with grace.

How greatly does my heart rejoice

To hear His words and seek His face!

Though I was once to Christ a stranger

With sight and hearing then so dim,

He saved me from eternal danger;

Now I delight in hearing Him!

Hope and Health

Read:  Psalm 67 / Proverbs 4 / Ruth 1 / Luke 8

Psalm 67:1,2 ~ God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.

Proverbs 4:18,19 ~ The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

Ruth 1:14-17 ~ Ruth clave unto her... And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.

Luke 8:39 ~ Show how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.

May God be merciful to us

That we may show His great salvation,

The blessed hope so marvelous,

The saving health of every nation.

This hope and health proclaimed by Ruth

Was found by trusting God alone.

So may we likewise tell the truth

To make our Savior’s greatness known.

Wise to Worship

Read:  Psalm 66 / Proverbs 3 / Judges 21 / Luke 7

Psalm 66:8 ~ O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard.

Proverbs 3:7 ~ Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

Judges 21:25 ~ In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

Luke 7:45 ~ Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.

It's wise to worship Jesus Christ

And daily make His praise be heard,

Declaring He was sacrificed

And rose according to His Word.

Though some profess that they are wise

Who mock the Savior they dismiss,

They’re really fools, since they despise

They Son of God whom they should kiss.

Purged when we Pray

Read:  Psalm 65 / Proverbs 2 / Judges 20 / Luke 6

Psalm 65:2-3 ~ O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come... as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.

Proverbs 2:6 ~ For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Judges 20:27,28 ~ Israel inquired of the LORD... and the LORD said... tomorrow I will deliver them into thine hand.

Luke 6:46 ~ And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Our God will purge us when we pray

As we confess and turn from sin.

He gives us wisdom every day,

And purifies our hearts within.

The Lord will make us understand

His calling that He shall make known.

In love, the Lord will reprimand

The hearts of those who are His own.

Greatly Filled with Godly Fear

Read:  Psalm 64 / Proverbs 1 / Judges 19 / Luke 5

Psalm 64:9 ~ All men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.

Proverbs 1:7 ~ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Judges 19:30 ~ And it was so, that all that saw it said... consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.

Luke 5:26 ~ They were all amazed... glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things today.

The day is surely drawing near

When nations shall be greatly filled

From shore to shore with godly fear,

And every scorner shall be stilled.

The foes of God shall be amazed,

And every eye shall see Him then.

Our Lord and Savior shall be praised

When He, as promised, comes again.
