His Passion He Portrayed

Posted in advance for April 26, 2024

Read:  Psalm 140 / Proverbs 26 / Song 8 /Luke 13

Psalm 140:7 ~ O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

Proverbs 26:2 ~ As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.

Song of Solomon 8:7 ~ Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

Luke 13:34 ~ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

Behold the passion Christ portrayed,

Who fought the battle in our place!

Behold the curse upon Him laid

That He might bless us with His grace!

The waters could not quench His love

When billows crashed upon Him then,

For Christ descended from above

To cover sinners “as a hen.”

Internally Inspected

Read:  Psalm 139 / Proverbs 25 / Song 7 /Luke 12

Psalm 139:23,24 ~ Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Proverbs 25:28 ~ He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

Song of Solomon 7:12 ~ Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine flourish, whether the tender grape appear… the pomegranates bud forth: there will I give thee my loves.

Luke 12:31,34 ~ Seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you… For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

The Lord inspects my every thought;

He searches me internally.

He tells me things that I knew not

And shows me what I could not see.

I hear my wise Reprover speak

When He has searched my heart within

To make me strong when I am weak

And thus, triumphant over sin.

Greater Glory

Posted in advance for April 24, 2024

Read:  Psalm 138 / Proverbs 24 / Song 6 /Luke 11

Psalm 138:4,5 ~ All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth...they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD.

Proverbs 24:15,16 ~ Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place: for a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again.

Song of Solomon 6:3 ~ I am my beloved's…my beloved is mine.

Luke 11:31 ~ The queen of the south… came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

The kings of earth shall sing the praise

Which shall recount our Savior’s story.

We honor heroes and their ways,

But Jesus Christ has greater glory.

We are the object of His love,
As in the Song of Solomon.

He is our Hero from above!

There is none greater; no not one!

Sing of our Savior

Read:  Psalm 137 / Proverbs 23 / Song 5 /Luke 10

Psalm 137:4 ~ How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?

Proverbs 23:26 ~ My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

Song of Solomon 5:16 ~ His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.

Luke 10:41,42 ~ And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

The land is strange wherein we dwell,

Yet on our Savior, we depend.

We rightly sing that it is well,

For Christ is our unchanging Friend.

We sing because we fix our view

On Jesus Christ, our faithful Savior.

His mercies every day are new,

And He befriends us with His favor.

Mountain of Myrrh

Read:  Psalm 136 / Proverbs 22 / Song 4 /Luke 9

Psalm 136:23,24 ~ Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever: and hath redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endureth forever.

Proverbs 22:3 ~ A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Song of Solomon 4:6,7,15 ~ Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense. Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee… a fountain… a well of living water.

Luke 9:56 ~ The Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them.

Thank God that He remembered us

When Jesus died love so great

And then was raised victorious

To save us from our lost estate!

The love that led Him to that mountain

Of sorrow’s myrrh and frankincense

Extends His blessings as a fountain

And hides our soul in His defense!

His War He Won

Read:  Psalm 135 / Proverbs 21 / Song 3 /Luke 8

Psalm 135:13 ~ Thy name, O LORD, endureth forever; and thy memorial, O LORD, throughout all generations.

Proverbs 21:31 ~ The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

Song of Solomon 3:4 ~ I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go.

Luke 8:39 ~ Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee.

We shall remember Jesus Christ

Through every coming generation,

Recalling He was sacrificed

As we declare His great salvation.

We are commissioned now to go

And show His war that He has won,

That everyone may thereby know

The great things that our Lord has done.

Christ my Creator

Read:  Psalm 134 / Proverbs 20 / Song 2 /Luke 7

Psalm 134:1-3 ~ Behold, bless ye the LORD, all ye servants of the LORD, which by night stand in the house of the LORD. Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD. The LORD that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion.

Proverbs 20:12 ~ The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.

Song of Solomon 2:4 ~ He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.

Luke 7:44-47 ~ I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet… Thou gavest me no kiss… My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment… for she loved much.

I’ll bless the Lord who came to die,

Who is my Savior and Creator!

My hearing ear and seeing eye

Has searched, and there is no one greater!

Christ brings me daily to His table

And there displays His wondrous love.

The fool’s attraction to a fable

Is far removed from things above.

Pleasant Portraits

Read:  Psalm 133 / Proverbs 19 / Song 1 /Luke 6

Psalm 133:1-3 ~ Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment… as the dew of Hermon… for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

Proverbs 19:12 ~ The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favor is as dew upon the grass.

Song of Solomon 1:3,4 ~ Because of the savor of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth… Draw me…  we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love.

Luke 6:5 ~ And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

How good and pleasant are the scenes

That have portrayed our wondrous Savior!

The high priest for us intervenes,

And heaven’s dew descends with favor!

Our hearts are set on things above

Since Jesus is our Sabbath Rest.

How gladly we recall His love:

He bore the curse for those He blessed!
