Timeless vs. Temporary

Read:  Psalm 86 / Proverbs 31 / Jeremiah 30 / 2 Cor. 4

Psalm 86:11 ~ Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.

Proverbs 31:30 ~ Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

Jeremiah 30:22 ~ Ye shall be my people… I will be your God.

2 Corinthians 4:18 ~ We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The things we see are temporary;

The timeless things are yet unseen.

We do not need a commentary

To illustrate what these things mean.

Our beauty fades like flowers do,

And fleeting favor soon is gone,

So, with eternal things in view,

We trust the Lord who leads us on.

Goal of God

Read:  Psalm 85 / Proverbs 30 / Jeremiah 29 / 2 Cor. 3

Psalm 85:8 ~ I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints.

Proverbs 30:4,5 ~ Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended?... he is a shield unto them that… trust in him.

Jeremiah 29:11 ~ For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

2 Corinthians 3:18 ~ But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

The goal of God is our correction

To give us an expected end.

How much we need our Lord’s direction!

How much we need Him as our Friend!

The thoughts of God that He unveils

Are not of evil, but of peace.

We see His purpose that entails

His likeness in us to increase.

Forsaking Foolish Fear

Read:  Psalm 84 / Proverbs 29 / Jeremiah 28 / 2 Cor. 2

Psalm 84:5-7 ~ Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee… passing through the valley… They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.

Proverbs 29:25 ~ The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

Jeremiah 28:16,17 ~ Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the LORD. So Hananiah the prophet died the same year.

2 Corinthians 2:17 ~ For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but… in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

We’re called to stand before the Lord,

Forsaking every foolish fear,

Though fools are seeking man’s reward,

As if God doesn’t see or hear.

Yet we are sure that God is there

And that our ways are in His sight.

The fear of man will bring a snare;

The fear of God renews our might.

Broken Silence Brings Salvation

Read:  Psalm 83 / Proverbs 28 / Jeremiah 27 /2 Cor. 1

Psalm 83:1,18 ~ Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace… That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the Most High over all the earth.

Proverbs 28:9 ~ He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Jeremiah 27:15 ~ I have not sent them, saith the LORD, yet they prophesy a lie in my name; that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.

2 Corinthians 1:20 ~ For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Let deadly silence now be broken

So hearts may hear what God has said,

As we declare what He has spoken,

Replacing lies they’ve heard instead.

Let broken silence bring salvation

As with compassion we are moved.

Prophetic truth is the foundation

On which God’s promises are proved.

Great Door in Growing Darkness

Read:  Psalm 82 / Proverbs 27 / Jeremiah 26 /1 Cor. 16

Psalm 82:5 ~ They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

Proverbs 27:11 ~ My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.

Jeremiah 26:2 ~ Thus saith the LORD… All the words that I command thee… speak unto them; diminish not a word.

1 Corinthians 16:9,22 ~ A great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries… If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema; Maranatha.

The darkness of this age is growing;

Foundations all are out of course.

The lost shall reap what they are sowing

When rebels are restrained by force.

A door is briefly opened now

To preach the Gospel of salvation.

Soon every knee to Christ shall bow

In all the earth in every nation.

Corrupt Communication

Read:  Psalm 81 / Proverbs 26 / Jeremiah 25 /1 Cor. 15

Psalm 81:11,12 But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me. So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels.

Proverbs 26:28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

Jeremiah 25:8,11 Because ye have not heard my words… this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

1 Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

The Lord has given us a choice

To hear and to obey His Word

Or listen to another voice

That will corrupt what we have heard.

Be sure there is a consequence

For heeding bad communication

That turns the heart from God’s defense

To counsel that corrupts a nation.

Returning to our Reprover

Read:  Psalm 80 / Proverbs 25 / Jeremiah 24 /1 Cor. 14

Psalm 80:19 ~ Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Proverbs 25:12 ~ As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

Jeremiah 24:7 ~ I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

1 Corinthians 14:3,33 ~ He that prophesieth speaketh… to edification… exhortation, and comfort… God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

How gracious our Reprover is

To those whom He corrects today!

How well His voice is known to His

Returning to Him to obey!

His grace brings us to this conclusion

When stubbornness and straying cease:

Obedience dispels confusion,

Replacing it with perfect peace.

Reputation of His Righteousness

Read:  Psalm 79 / Proverbs 24 / Jeremiah 23 /1 Cor. 13

Psalm 79:9 ~ Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.

Proverbs 24:23 ~ These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

Jeremiah 23:5,6 ~ I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign… and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

1 Corinthians 13:4,6,8 ~ Charity suffereth long, and is kind… rejoiceth in the truth… Charity never faileth.

Christ Jesus has a reputation

Which we should faithfully proclaim.

He is the God of our salvation;

There is no other saving name.

The LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS prevailed;

Salvation comes from Him alone.

His boundless love has never failed,

And we rejoice to make Him known.

Lesson Learned

Read:  Psalm 78 / Proverbs 23 / Jeremiah 22 /1 Cor. 12

Psalm 78:22,23,37 ~ They believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation: though he had… opened the doors of heaven… for their heart was not right with him.

Proverbs 23:26 ~ My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

Jeremiah 22:21 ~ I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear… This hath been thy manner from thy youth.

1 Corinthians 12:31 ~ Yet shew I… you a more excellent way.

When doubt within our heart prevails,

It is because our eyes have wandered

From Christ our Lord who never fails.

Now let this lesson learned be pondered.

O may we rather fix our eyes

On God as we explore His ways

Which are so excellent and wise,

Deserving of our highest praise!

Ransom Remembered

Read:  Psalm 77 / Proverbs 22 / Jeremiah 21 /1 Cor. 11

Psalm 77:11 ~ I will remember the works of the LORD: surely, I will remember thy wonders of old.

Proverbs 22:3 ~ A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Jeremiah 21:8 ~ Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.

1 Corinthians 11:26 ~ For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

As I recall the ransom paid

By Christ, who is my Hiding Place,

I marvel at His love displayed!

How wondrous is His saving grace!

For me my Lord was sacrificed!

For me He rose up from the dead!

My heart is drawn to Jesus Christ

Remembered in the wine and bread.

Rebels Restrained

Read:  Psalm 76 / Proverbs 21 / Jeremiah 20 /1 Cor. 10

Psalm 76:10 ~ Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.

Proverbs 21:30 ~ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

Jeremiah 20:11 ~ But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore, my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.

1 Corinthians 10:13 ~ God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Rebellion lifts its voice of pride

Against the Lord our God and Savior.

The wrath of man shall not abide

When God restrains His foes’ behavior.

The rebels soon shall be removed,

And they, at last, shall not prevail,

But God is faithful who has proved

His promises shall never fail.
