“If
it had not been the LORD who was on our side… then
the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul” (Psalm 124:2-4). “Love covereth all sins” (Proverbs 10:12). “Many waters cannot quench love, neither can
the floods drown it” (Song of Solomon 8:7).
“The love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if One
died for all, then were all dead: and that He died for all, that they which
live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for
them, and rose again” (2 Corinthians 5:14,15).
The
waters rose in Noah’s day,
And
those outside the ark then died.
We
would have perished in that way,
If
Christ had not been on our side.
Our
Savior’s love is like that ark
Which
saved the souls of those within.
He
is our Lighthouse in the dark;
We
would have perished in our sin!
The
legacy of love in Christ
Is
in His spotless, precious blood.
If
He had not been sacrificed,
We’d
perish too, as in the flood.
The
promise that our Savior gives
To
every soul that He will save
Is
that they live because He lives,
Since
He has overcome the grave.
The
floods of sorrow crashing down
Could
never quench our Savior’s love,
Nor
could those many waters drown
Eternal
passion from above!
Such
wondrous love constrains us now
To
ponder why He suffered thus.
Behold
the thorns upon His brow!
Behold
the cross He bore for us!
He
knew there was no other way,
For
we, by sin, were rendered dead.
There
was an awful debt to pay,
And
Love would pay it in our stead!
O
Lord, it’s hard to comprehend
The
kind of love that You displayed!
Until
You saw Your labor end,
Upon
that awful cross You stayed!
You
died, dear Lord, in our defense,
So
we should live alone for You!
There’s
nothing else that now makes sense,
And
nothing less that we should do.
