"I am the vine, ye are the branches: he that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit, for without Me ye can do nothing" (John 15:5).
In man there's no ability
To manufacture any fruit,
For only God can make a tree
Or any life that has a root.
All attempts by men must fail,
For life proceeds from God alone.
Fools may try to no avail,
Yet their failure shall be shown.
In Christ, the Vine, alone we live,
And we, the branches, now derive
Our fruit that He alone can give;
Without Him we cannot survive.
That is why our Lord portrayed
Himself to be the Vine, of course:
Any fruit in us displayed
Is there to magnify its Source!
O Lord, we praise You as the Vine,
And thank You that in us may be
Much fruit, which by Your wise design,
Displays Your own vitality!
