"Thou art just... but we have done wickedly" (Nehemiah 9:33). "Whoso findeth Me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD" (Proverbs 8:35). "And Pilate asked Him again, saying, Answerest Thou nothing? Behold how many things they witness against Thee. But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marveled" (Mark 15:4,5).
How
silent was our Savior when
In
His defense He would not speak.
He
came to die for sinful men,
Defending
souls He came to seek.
The
Lord is just and we are not;
Our
sinful deeds had no defense.
We
are the straying sheep He sought;
He
came to bear our consequence.
The
Lamb of God thus bore our strife
In
silence then to be our Savior.
In
Christ alone we find our life
As
we obtain His saving favor.
When
Pilate heard each accusation,
He
knew our Lord was innocent.
The
ones deserving condemnation
Were
sinners there, so evident.
No
wonder Pilate marveled so
At
silence in our Savior's case,
Yet
how much more should we who know
That
Christ was there to take our place!
O
Lord, we find it marvelous
That
You would leave Your throne above
To
suffer silently for us,
Compelled
by everlasting love!
We
thank You, Lord, for what You did
For
souls which You in silence won.
Your
saving grace shall not be hid
As
we proclaim what You have done!
