Siding with Sinners

“If it had not been the LORD who was on our side… then the waters had overwhelmed us… Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 124:1-8).  “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy…  for Thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” (Revelation 5:9).

Our help is in the name of Christ,
Who made the heavens and the earth,
Yet for our souls was sacrificed!
O sing, my soul!  Proclaim His worth!

The judgment waters would have come
And surely swept us all away,
For all are sinners, not just some,
And all, like sheep, have gone astray.

But our Redeemer, moved with love,
Became a Man and for us died.
He left His majesty above
To be the Savior on our side!

We ponder now our happy lot
With those redeemed from every nation.
If not for Christ (horrific thought!)
There’d be no hope for our salvation.

O Lord, we thank You for the song
That celebrates Your worth anew!
Eternity is not too long
To sing our praise and thanks to You.
