Purifying Purpose

Read:  Psalm 141 / Proverbs 15 / Daniel 1 / 2 Peter 2 

 

Psalm 141:3 ~ Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

Proverbs 15:33 ~ The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is humility.

Daniel 1:8 ~ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor… wine.

2 Peter 2:9 ~ The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

 

God sets a watch both night and day

To guide my heart in every thought

And guard my mouth in all I say

As by the fear of God I’m taught.

 

As Daniel purposed in his heart

To live a life of purity,

I’ll trust my Savior to impart

His purifying grace in me.

Battle of Backsliding

Read:  Psalm 140 / Proverbs 14 / Ezekiel 48 / 2 Peter 1

 

Psalm 140:7 ~ O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

Proverbs 14:14,26,27 ~ The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways… In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence… a place of refuge… to depart from the snares of death.

Ezekiel 48:35 ~ The name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there.

2 Peter 1:3,4 ~ His divine power… called us to glory and virtue… given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that… ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

 

The battle of backsliding hearts

Is overcome by heaven’s grace.

By fearing God, a soul departs

From sin through Christ our Hiding Place. 

 

The presence of our Lord within

Should surely cause us to beware

And seek His cleansing from our sin

As we recall the Lord is there.

Waters of His Word

Psalm 139:17 ~ How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!

Proverbs 13:14 ~ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Ezekiel 47:1,5 ~ He brought me… unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold… waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over.

1 Peter 5:10 ~ But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

 

How precious are the thoughts of God, 

And how uncountable their sum,

Like sands beneath the ocean broad

And fountain springs to which we come!

 

As waters wherein we may swim,

Much deeper than we can explore,

The Word of God expounds on Him

Who is the Savior we adore.

Walking in His Will

Read:  Psalm 138 / Proverbs 12 / Ezekiel 46 / 1 Peter 4 

 

Psalm 138:7 ~ Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.

Proverbs 12:28 ~ In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

Ezekiel 46:15 ~ Prepare the lamb, and the meat offering, and the oil, every morning for a continual burnt offering.

1 Peter 4:2 ~ That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

 

Though troubles are on every side,

The Lord who saved my soul from wrath

Has promised me that He will guide

And guard me in His righteous path. 

 

So every morning when I rise,

I know my Lord is with me still, 

Instructing me to make me wise

As I am walking in His will.

Salvation's Song

Psalm 137:4 ~ How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?

Proverbs 11:30 ~ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Ezekiel 45:18 ~ Thus saith the Lord GOD… thou shalt take a young bullock without blemish, and cleanse the sanctuary

1 Peter 3:18 ~ For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit.

 

The land is strange we travel through,

But just ahead is heaven’s shore

Where we shall gather and renew

Our song of praise forevermore! 

 

Yet even now we’re called to sing,

In spite of all we see that’s wrong,

Because we worship Christ our King

Who gave to us salvation’s song.

Praise and Proclaim

Psalm 136:1,23,24 ~ O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good… Who remembered us in our low estate… and hath redeemed us… for his mercy endureth forever.

Proverbs 10:2,22 ~ Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death… The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

Ezekiel 44:27,28 ~ And in the day that he goeth into the sanctuary, unto the inner court… he shall offer his sin offering, saith the Lord GOD… I am their inheritance.

1 Peter 2:5,9 ~ Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices… a royal priesthood… that… shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

 

Give thanks to God, for He is good! 

He saw our hopeless situation,

And in our place our Savior stood

To save our souls from condemnation. 

 

As holy priests we praise His name

And worship in His inner court.

As royal priests we now proclaim

His Gospel truth which we report.

Gospel's Word of God's Warning

Psalm 135:15-18 ~ The idols of the heathen… speak not… see not… hear not… neither is there any breath… They that make them are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth in them.

Proverbs 9:10 ~ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Ezekiel 43:10 ~ Thou son of man, shew the house to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities.

1 Peter 1:25 ~ But the word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

 

The idols neither see nor hear,

And those who make them are the same

Who turn away their deafened ear

And close their eyes, to their own shame. 

 

But God has called us to convey

His Gospel’s Word as we expound

His warning to the lost today

To seek Him while He may be found.

Christ before Creation

Psalm 134:3 ~ The LORD that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion.

Proverbs 8:29,31 ~ When he appointed the foundations of the earth: then… my delights were with the sons of men.

Ezekiel 42:20 ~ He measured… a wall round about… to make a separation between the sanctuary and the profane place.

James 5:8 ~ Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

The Lord who made the stars above

And all the earth by His decree

Made us the object of His love

Before creation came to be. 

 

So may our hearts delight in Christ

Who set His love on sons of men,

Who for this cause was sacrificed, 

And Who, at last, shall come again.

Lord of Love

Read:  Psalm 133 / Proverbs 7 / Ezekiel 41 / James 4

 

Psalm 133:1-3 ~ Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!...  It is like the precious ointment upon Aaron's beard... to the skirts of his garments… for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

Proverbs 7:2 ~ Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

Ezekiel 41:18,19 ~ Every cherub had two faces; so that the face of a man was toward the palm tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree on the other side: it was made through all the house round about.

James 4:8 ~ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

 

Behold, how good it is to feast

With those who think on things above,

Exalting Christ, our great High Priest,

The Lord of everlasting love! 

 

Behold the Man, the King of kings,

The Lion out of Judah’s line!

Our hearts are fixed upon these things

And purified by love divine!

Measure of His Mercy

Read:  Psalm 132 / Proverbs 6 / Ezekiel 40 / James 3

 

Psalm 132:8,14 ~ Arise, O LORD, into thy rest… This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

Proverbs 6:23 ~ For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

Ezekiel 40:47 ~ So he measured the court, an hundred cubits long, and an hundred cubits broad, foursquare; and the altar that was before the house.

James 3:17 ~ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

 

Let us explore the Lord’s desire

That He reveals in His Word.

His thoughts and ways are surely higher

Than eye has seen or ear has heard. 

 

The measure of His mercy seen

Was shown when Christ came from above,

Who died to bridge the gulf between

Our sin and heaven’s boundless love!

Fairest Friend

Read:  Psalm 131 / Proverbs 5 / Ezekiel 39 / James 2

Psalm 131:1 ~ LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Proverbs 5:7,9 ~ Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth… lest thou give thine honor unto others, and thy years unto the cruel.

Ezekiel 39:25 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; NOW will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name.

James 2:22,23 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled… Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

 

I will not lift a lofty eye

Regarding things I can’t explain,

For there are matters far too high

That God shall perfectly ordain. 

 

The Lord has seen the larger plan,

Far greater than I comprehend. 

I’ll trust the Lord instead of man

And cling to God, my fairest Friend.

Gog meets GOD

Psalm 130:4 ~ There is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

Proverbs 4:26 ~ Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

Ezekiel 38:18,23 ~ It shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face… Thus will I magnify myself… and they shall know that I am the LORD.

James 1:8 ~ A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

 

There is forgiveness with the Lord,

That GOD our Savior may be feared. 

Let His salvation be explored;

The path of pardon has been cleared! 

 

Behold the battle: Gog meets GOD! 

Our GOD shall triumph!  Sing His praise!

The doubleminded man is flawed

And, thus, unstable in his ways.

Confidence in Christ

Psalm 129:2 ~ Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

Proverbs 3:26 ~ For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

Ezekiel 37:27 ~ My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Hebrews 13:5,6 ~ He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

My enemies have not prevailed,

Since Jesus Christ is my Defense. 

His promises have never failed;

The Lord shall be my confidence. 

 

The Lord is with me; this I know.

He is my Helper, strong and true.

He shelters me from every foe;

I will not fear what man shall do.

Finisher of our Faith

Read:  Psalm 128 / Proverbs 2 / Ezekiel 36 / Hebrews 12 

 

Psalm 128:1,2 ~ Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labor of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

Proverbs 2:5,11 ~ Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God… Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee.

Ezekiel 36:26 ~ A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

Hebrews 12:2 ~ Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross… and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

 

The Author of our faith is Christ;

He is the Finisher as well. 

Our Lord for us was sacrificed

To save our trembling souls from hell. 

 

The new heart Jesus gave to us

Replaced our hardened heart of stone. 

Look up!  The sight is glorious

As we behold Him on His throne!

Noah vs. Nations

Psalm 127:1 ~ Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Proverbs 1:33 ~ But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Ezekiel 35:13 ~ Thus with your mouth ye have boasted… and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them.

Hebrews 11:7 ~ By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

 

Except the house has been erected 

By God, it cannot long remain.

Except the city is protected

By God, the watchman wakes in vain. 

 

The Lord has heard the boastful scorning

Of nations who blaspheme His name. 

As Noah rightly feared God’s warning,

America should do the same.
