The Christmas Gift That Christ Gave

Read:  Psalm 86 / Proverbs 25 / 1 Chron. 21 / 1 Cor. 13

Psalm 86:5 ~ For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

Proverbs 25:25 ~ As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

1 Chronicles 21:24 ~ King David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.

1 Corinthians 13:12 ~ For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

How costly was God’s Christmas Gift

That offers mercy to us all!

Christ gave Himself to save and lift

The humble hearts who on Him call.

King David purchased at full price

The temple site portraying grace,

Foreshadowing the Sacrifice

Of Jesus dying in our place.

Greatest Gift

Read:  Psalm 85 / Proverbs 24 / 1 Chron. 20 / 1 Cor. 12

Psalm 85:8 ~ I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people.

Proverbs 24:14 ~ So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

1 Chronicles 20:2 ~ David took the crown of their king from off his head, and… also exceeding much spoil out of the city.

1 Corinthians 12:31 ~ But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Decrees from rulers may abound,

In contrast to what God has said.

The wise men heard a sweeter sound

And worshiped Jesus Christ instead.

Though many seek a crown’s reward,

Their earthly prize shall soon grow dim.

The Greatest Gift is Christ our Lord,

Who draws our hearts to worship Him.

Remedy of Remembrance

Read:  Psalm 84 / Proverbs 23 / 1 Chron. 19 / 1 Cor. 11

Psalm 84:3 ~ Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.

Proverbs 23:26 ~ My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

1 Chronicles 19:13 ~ Be of good courage… behave ourselves valiantly… let the LORD do that which is good in his sight.

1 Corinthians 11:26 ~ For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

The lonely sparrow finds her rest

In altars typifying Christ.

The swallow makes her young a nest

Where Christ, in type, was sacrificed.

O what a remedy we find

In the remembrance of our Lord!

His altars sweetly call to mind

His love we scarcely have explored.

Prudent Person

Read:  Psalm 83 / Proverbs 22 / 1 Chron. 18 / 1 Cor. 10

Psalm 83:16,18 ~ Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name… that men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.

Proverbs 22:3,4 ~ A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honor, and life.

1 Chronicles 18:14 ~ So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.

1 Corinthians 10:32,33 ~ Give none offense, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles… that they may be saved.

If Christ our Savior never came,

We could not have a second birth.

Our faces would be filled with shame

When we departed from this earth.

A prudent person will foresee

The fast-approaching condemnation.

No wonder we are called to flee

To Christ who purchased our salvation!

Sent to Sinners

Read:  Psalm 82 / Proverbs 21 / 1 Chron. 17 / 1 Cor. 9

Psalm 82:5 ~ They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

Proverbs 21:29 ~ A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.

1 Chronicles 17:16 ~ And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

1 Corinthians 9:16 ~ Woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

Foundations all are out of course

As sinners spurn God’s saving grace,

Yet they shall meet the Lord by force

When they shall bow before His face.

But who am I, that I should be

A messenger that God has sent?

My Savior calls, and woe is me

If I don’t tell them to repent!

Hunger of our Heart

Read:  Psalm 81 / Proverbs 20 / 1 Chron. 16 / 1 Cor. 8

Psalm 81:10,16 ~ I am the LORD thy God… open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it… with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.

Proverbs 20:27 ~ The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

1 Chronicles 16:11 ~ Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.

1 Corinthians 8:3 ~ If any man love God, the same is known of him.

There is a hunger deep inside

That only Jesus Christ can fill.

So let our hearts be open wide

To seek His face and do His will.

God sees the hunger of our heart,

And He has promised satisfaction

To those who love Him and depart

From things that serve as a distraction.

Fading Fashion

Read:  Psalm 80 / Proverbs 19 / 1 Chron. 15 / 1 Cor. 7

Psalm 80:17,18 ~ Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself… Quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

Proverbs 19:21 ~ There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

1 Chronicles 15:13 ~ The LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.

1 Corinthians 7:29,31 ~ But this I say, brethren, the time is short… for the fashion of this world passeth away.

The Man who is at God’s right hand

Is Jesus Christ who intercedes.

His precious promises shall stand;

He is supplying all our needs.

Why should we let a moment waste?

We ought to serve our Lord with passion!

Our time is short; let us make haste,

For earth is fading with its fashion.

Shelter from our Shame

Read:  Psalm 79 / Proverbs 18 / 1 Chron. 14 / 1 Cor. 6

Psalm 79:9 ~ Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name… and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.

Proverbs 18:10 ~ The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

1 Chronicles 14:16,17 ~ David… did as God commanded him… The fame of David went out into all lands… upon all nations.

1 Corinthians 6:20 ~ For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

We glorify our Savior’s name;

He is the God of our salvation.

He is the Shelter from our shame

Who rescued us from condemnation.

He is the spotless Sacrifice,

The Gift of God unspeakable,

Who gave Himself to pay the price

To ransom our eternal soul.

Heart and Hands

Read:  Psalm 78 / Proverbs 17 / 1 Chron. 13 / 1 Cor. 5

Psalm 78:70-72 ~ He chose David… his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds… he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

Proverbs 17:3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.

1 Chronicles 13:5,6 So David gathered all Israel together…to bring the ark of God… the ark of God the LORD, that dwelleth between the cherubim, whose name is called on it.

1 Corinthians 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven… ye are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.

The Lord caused David to depart

From sheepfolds in the pasture lands

And with integrity of heart

To guide His people with his hands.

The Lord our God is searching still

For those who love and follow Christ

With heart and hands to do His will,

Since He for us was sacrificed.

Christ dwells between the cherubim

As the eternal, great I AM.

With heart and hands, we worship Him,

Our Lord and Sacrificial Lamb.

Dare Not Depart Now

Read:  Psalm 77 / Proverbs 16 / 1 Chron. 12 / 1 Cor. 4

Psalm 77:10,12 ~ I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High… I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.

Proverbs 16:32 ~ He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

1 Chronicles 12:32,33 ~ The children of Issachar… had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do… expert in war… were not of double heart.

1 Corinthians 4:1,2 ~ Let a man so account of us… stewards of the mysteries of God… found faithful.

I dare not let infirmity

Remove me from the battlefield,

Since Jesus Christ enlisted me,

And by His stripes I have been healed.

I dare not let a double heart

Deter me now in any way,

Lest, as a steward, I depart

From faithfulness and go astray.

Hatred Halted

Read:  Psalm 76 / Proverbs 15 / 1 Chron. 11 / 1 Cor. 3

Psalm 76:10 ~ Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.

Proverbs 15:11 ~ Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

1 Chronicles 11:3 ~ They anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel.

1 Corinthians 3:19,20 ~ The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God... He taketh the wise in their own craftiness… The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

The wrath of man shall praise the Lord;

As God commands, it shall be done.

The hearts of all have been explored

Who choose to hate or love His Son.

The hatred God will yet allow

Continues, yet it shall be halted,

For every knee at last shall bow

When Christ returns and is exalted.

Still Searches

Read:  Psalm 75 / Proverbs 14 / 1 Chron. 10 / 1 Cor. 2

Psalm 75:7 ~ But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.

Proverbs 14:34 ~ Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

1 Chronicles 10:14 ~ And [Saul] inquired not of the LORD: therefore, he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David.

1 Corinthians 2:16 ~ For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Though wicked rulers seize a crown,

Our God is Judge:  He shall decide

Who He sets up, who He puts down,

And who He humbles in their pride.

The Lord chose David to be king

Because He knew he would obey.

This is the mind that we should bring,

For God still searches hearts today.

Kinship with our King

Read:  Psalm 74 / Proverbs 13 / 1 Chron. 9 / 1 Cor. 1

Psalm 74:12 ~ God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

Proverbs 13:20 ~ He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

1 Chronicles 9:20 ~ And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the LORD was with him.

1 Corinthians 1:9 ~ God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

We fellowship with those who know

That God is King of all the earth.

We walk with those who wisely show

The kinship of their second birth.

As Phinehas was with the Lord

Encouraging his company,

We worship Christ in one accord

Rejoicing in our unity.

His Foe beneath His Feet

Read:  Psalm 73 / Proverbs 12 / 1 Chron. 8 / Romans 16

Psalm 73:28 ~ It is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.

Proverbs 12:20 ~ Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counselors of peace is joy.

1 Chronicles 8:34 ~ And the son of Jonathan [Jehovah-given] was Merib-baal [later called Mephibosheth]; and Merib-baal [Quarrel against Baal] begat Micah [Who is like Jah?].

Romans 16:20 ~ And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

It’s good for us to each draw near

And lift our eyes to Christ above.

We cannot otherwise make clear

The Gospel of His wondrous love.

Though Satan is a mighty foe

And dreadful with his dark deceit,

Our Lord is greater who will show

The serpent bruised beneath His feet.
