Found Faithful

Read:  Psalm 71 / Proverbs 10 / 1 Chron. 6 / Romans 14

Psalm 71:17,18 ~ O God, thou hast taught me from my youth…  Now also when I am old and gray-headed, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation.

Proverbs 10:5 ~ He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

1 Chronicles 6:3 ~ The sons also of Aaron; Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

Romans 14:12 ~ So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

The Lord has taught me from my youth,

And as I now am growing old,

I learn that stewards of His truth

Must be found faithful, true, and bold.

By Aaron’s sons, the elder two,

Who were unfaithful, to their shame,

We learn if stewards are untrue,

They thus reproach our Savior’s name.

Rejoice and Remember

Read:  Psalm 70 / Proverbs 9 / 1 Chron. 5 / Romans 13

Psalm 70:4 ~ Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.

Proverbs 9:5 ~ Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

1 Chronicles 5:20 ~ They were helped… for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.

Romans 13:11 ~ Knowing the time… is high time to awake out of sleep… now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Let all who seek the Lord rejoice

That Christ is risen from the dead.

Let all who worship, hear His voice

As we partake of wine and bread.

Let us remember that He heard

Our cry in our distress and fear.

Let us awake and heed His Word

As His return is drawing near.

Sacrificed for Sinners

Read:  Psalm 69 / Proverbs 8 / 1 Chron. 4 / Romans 12

Psalm 69:4,9 ~ I restored that which I took not away… For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

Proverbs 8:6 ~ Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

1 Chronicles 4:10 ~ Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him [Jabez] that which he requested.

Romans 12:1 ~ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

The Lord restored what we had taken,

And on Him our reproaches fell.

These prophecies were not mistaken;

How deep the sorrows that they tell!

Our Lord for us was sacrificed

To clothe us in His righteousness.

How right it is to live for Christ

Who died for sinners He would bless.

Salvation vs. Severity

Read:  Psalm 68 / Proverbs 7 / 1 Chron. 3 / Romans 11

Psalm 68:11,20 ~ The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published itHe that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto GOD the Lord belong the issues [Heb. towtsaah: deliverance; outgoings] from death.

Proverbs 7:24-27 ~ Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth… Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

1 Chronicles 3:10 ~ Solomon's son was Rehoboam.

Romans 11:22 ~ Behold… the goodness and severity of God.

The Word which God our Savior gave

Was published by the ones who heard,

Declaring that the Lord will save

The sinners who will trust His Word.

So let us speak persuasively

To show our present generation

The goodness and severity

Of God, the Author of salvation.

Merciful Messengers

Read:  Psalm 67 / Proverbs 6 / 1 Chron. 2 / Romans 10

Psalm 67:1,2 ~ God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.

Proverbs 6:23 ~ For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

1 Chronicles 2:7 ~ Achar, the troubler of Israel… transgressed in the thing accursed.

Romans 10:16 ~ But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

May God be merciful and bless

The messengers of His salvation

Who show His way of righteousness

With saving health to every nation.

We see the trouble liars bring

Who hate the Gospel they distort,

But we, as servants of our King,

Declare the truth of His report.

He Saw His Seed

Read:  Psalm 66 / Proverbs 5 / 1 Chron. 1 / Romans 9

Psalm 66:5,16 ~ Come and see the works of God… Come and hear… and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.

Proverbs 4:11; 5:1  ~ I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths... My son, attend unto my wisdom.

1 Chronicles 1:27 ~ Abram; the same is Abraham.

Romans 9:33 ~ As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumbling stone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

There is a Gospel invitation

That God extends to everyone

To come and see His great salvation

And come and hear what God has done.

The words God spoke to Abraham

Announced to him salvation’s path.

He saw His Seed, God’s holy Lamb,

And trusting Christ, was saved from wrath.

Robes Replaced

Read:  Psalm 65 / Proverbs 4 / 2 Kings 25 / Romans 8

Psalm 65:2,3 ~ O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come. Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.

Proverbs 4:18,19 ~ The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

2 Kings 25:27-29 ~ In the year that he [king of Babylon] began to reign, [he] did lift up the head of Jehoiachin… out of prison… spake kindly to him… and changed his prison garments: and he did eat bread continually before him all the days of his life.

Romans 8:1 ~ There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk… after the Spirit.

Our Savior hears the humble prayer

Of every sinner who repents.

He gave His life to thus prepare

A place for us by His defense.

Our Savior suffered, died, and rose

To purge away our condemnation.

He changed our filthy prison clothes

With robes replaced by His salvation.

Arrow of the Almighty

Read:  Psalm 64 / Proverbs 3 / 2 Kings 24 / Romans 7

Psalm 64:7,9 ~ But God shall shoot an arrow… and all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God.

Proverbs 3:35 ~ The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

2 Kings 24:20 ~ For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out.

Romans 7:24,25 ~ O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me?... I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Almighty God, who feeds the sparrow,

Shall save those trusting in His name.

But God at last shall shoot an arrow

And put His enemies to shame.

Their evil has not been ignored;

The Lord has heard their mockery.

Thank God for Jesus Christ our Lord

And for His truth that makes us free!

Satisfaction in our Savior

Read:  Psalm 63 / Proverbs 2 / 2 Kings 23 / Romans 6

Psalm 63:3 ~ Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.

Proverbs 2:35 ~ If thou criest after knowledge… for understanding; if thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

2 Kings 23:25 ~ Like unto him [Josiah] was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.

Romans 6:23 ~ For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

This desert land of sin and strife

Wherein we travel is so dry.

God’s love is better than this life

Which cannot save or satisfy.

How wisely king Josiah turned

With all his might in his behavior

To love the Lord as he discerned

Such satisfaction in our Savior.

Tender Trust

Read:  Psalm 62 / Proverbs 1 / 2 Kings 22 / Romans 5

Psalm 62:8 ~ Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

Proverbs 1:32,33 ~ For the turning away of the simple shall slay them… But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

2 Kings 22:19 ~ Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD… and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.

Romans 5:1,2 ~ We have peace… through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Our God is drawing humble hearts;

He listens to their prayers outpoured.

The peace and safety He imparts

Are found in those who trust the Lord.

Josiah prayed and sought God’s face;

The Lord could see his heart was tender.

We have this access into grace

By faith in Christ, our soul’s Defender.

Ascending Answer

Read:  Psalm 61 / Proverbs 30 / 2 Kings 21 / Romans 4

Psalm 61:2 ~ I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Proverbs 30:4 ~ Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name… if thou canst tell?

2 Kings 21:20,26 ~ And he [Amon] did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father Manasseh did… and Josiah his son reigned in his stead.

Romans 4:17 ~ I have made thee a father of many nations, before him whom he believed… God who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were… according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

I cry to God to lead me higher,

Ascending upward to His rock.

My Savior answers my desire

As from His Word, I hear Him talk.

He lifts my heart to heights above

To see His purpose and rejoice.

I hear my Savior’s words of love,

Like Abraham who heard His voice.

Heroic Help

Read:  Psalm 60 / Proverbs 29 / 2 Kings 20 / Romans 3

Psalm 60:11 ~ Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

Proverbs 29:25 ~ The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

2 Kings 20:5,6 ~ Thus saith the LORD… I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

Romans 3:26 ~ Declare… his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

I know where help is coming from.

It’s not from man; that much is plain.

Heroic Help from Christ has come,

And every other hope is vain.

We praise our Hero and Defender

By whom we have been justified

With all who gratefully surrender

To Jesus Christ who for us died.

Dying to Defend

Read:  Psalm 59 / Proverbs 28 / 2 Kings 19 / Romans 2

Psalm 59:17 ~ Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defense, and the God of my mercy.

Proverbs 28:13 ~ He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

2 Kings 19:34 ~ For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

Romans 2:4 ~ Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

The Lord my Strength is my Defense,

The God from whom my mercy came.

There is no other confidence

Or refuge that my soul can claim.

The Lord was dying to defend

Our souls when He was sacrificed.

How hopeless, therefore, is the end

Of those refusing Jesus Christ!

Sufficiently Suffered

Read:  Psalm 58 / Proverbs 27 / 2 Kings 18 / Romans 1

Psalm 58:11 ~ Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth.

Proverbs 27:12 ~ A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

2 Kings 18:5,7 ~ He [Hezekiah] trusted in the LORD… so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him… And the LORD was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth.

Romans 1:17-20 ~ The righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith… The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness… so that they are without excuse.

Give thanks to God for righteousness

That Jesus purchased for the lost.

He gave His life, for nothing less

Sufficiently could pay that cost.

As Hezekiah knew so well,

He only prospered by God’s grace.

That grace has rescued us from hell,

For Jesus suffered in our place!
