Savior Sacrificed

Read:  Psalm 40 / Proverbs 3 / Micah 7 / Matthew 18

Psalm 40:4,7 ~ Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust… I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me.

Proverbs 3:5 ~ Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Micah 7:7 ~ Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

Matthew 18:11 ~ For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

Our Savior came, as it was written,

And for our sake was sacrificed.

Behold the Lamb for sinners smitten,

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

The prophecies that we have heard

Declare to us salvation’s cost,

For what Christ promised has occurred:

He gave Himself to save the lost!

Sweet Simplicity

Read:  Psalm 39 / Proverbs 2 / Micah 6 / Matthew 17

Psalm 39:7 ~ Now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

Proverbs 2:6,20 ~ The LORD giveth wisdom… knowledge and understanding… that thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

Micah 6:8 ~ He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Matthew 17:8 ~ And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

What wait I for?  What should I do?

The Lord has shown me what is good:

I’ll walk with Him as I pursue

His daily pleasure, as I should.

I lift my eyes to Christ alone

And in this sweet simplicity,

The Lord is daily making known

How wisely He is leading me.

Beautiful in Bethlehem

Read:  Psalm 38 / Proverbs 1 / Micah 5 / Matthew 16

Psalm 38:18,22 ~ I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin… Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

Proverbs 1:29,33 ~ They hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD… But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Micah 5:2,4,5 ~ Thou, Bethlehem… out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting… great unto the ends of the earth… And this man shall be the peace.

Matthew 16:26 ~ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

I will confess iniquity;

I will be sorry for my sin,

But who will pay the debt for me

And fight the fight I cannot win?

Praise Christ, the Savior of my soul,

So beautiful in Bethlehem,

Who came to pay my debt in full

By dying in Jerusalem!
