Rebels who Refuse

Read:  Psalm 58 / Proverbs 21 / Zechariah 7 / Mark 8

Psalm 58:3-5 The wicked… go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies… like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear; which will not hearken.

Proverbs 21:29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.

Zechariah 7:11 But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.

Mark 8:36,37 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

The rebels who refuse to hear

Have exercised their own volition.

Alas!  The day is drawing near

When they shall not escape perdition!

All those who choose to stop their ears

Shall reap the whirlwind at last

When they lament their wasted years

And realize that grace has passed.

Beholding His Behavior

Read:  Psalm 57 / Proverbs 20 / Zechariah 6 / Mark 7

Psalm 57:2 ~ I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.

Proverbs 20:9 ~ Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

Zechariah 6:12 ~ Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD.

Mark 7:37 ~ He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

My God performs all things for me

Which I myself could never do:

His blood has cleansed me thoroughly;

His grace and truth made all things new.

Behold the Man, the BRANCH, my Savior,

Who died to save my soul from hell.

As I’m beholding His behavior,

I see that He does all things well.

Woeful Wandering

Read:  Psalm 56 / Proverbs 19 / Zechariah 5 / Mark 6

Psalm 56:8 ~ Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

Proverbs 19:23 ~ The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied… not be visited with evil.

Zechariah 5:5 ~ The angel that talked with me… said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.

Mark 6:50 ~ For they all saw him, and… immediately he talked with them, and saith… Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

His book records our wandering;

His bottle holds each woeful tear.

The Lord is surely pondering

Our ways when we forsake His fear.

We lift our eyes, as we are told,

To see our joyful restoration:

It is the Lord whom we behold,

Who cheers our hearts with His salvation.

Faithful Friendship

Read:  Psalm 55 / Proverbs 18 / Zechariah 4 / Mark 5

Psalm 55:22 ~ Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Proverbs 18:24 ~ There is a Friend… closer than a brother.

Zechariah 4:6 ~ This is the word of the LORD…  Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

Mark 5:19 ~ Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

We cast our burden on the Lord

Whose faithful Friendship has been proved.

He hears each prayer that is outpoured,

And with compassion, He is moved.

God’s Word declares (how good to hear it!)

It’s neither by our might nor power,

But rather by His Holy Spirit

We are triumphant every hour.

Heavenly Helper

Read:  Psalm 54 / Proverbs 17 / Zechariah 3 / Mark 4

Psalm 54:4 ~ Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.

Proverbs 17:17 ~ A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Zechariah 3:4 ~ Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

Mark 4:41 ~ They feared… said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

The Lord is my Heavenly Friend,

My Helper who died for my soul.

How much He was willing to spend!

He purchased my ransom in full!

I’m clothed in my Lord’s righteousness

With grace He will freely impart,

Befriending me in my distress

And speaking His peace to my heart.

God is Grieved

Read:  Psalm 53 / Proverbs 16 / Zechariah 2 / Mark 3

Psalm 53:4 ~ Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as… bread: they have not called upon God.

Proverbs 16:16,20 ~ How much better is it to get wisdom than gold!... He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.

Zechariah 2:8 ~ For thus saith the LORD of hosts… unto the nations… he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

Mark 3:5 ~ He [Jesus]… looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts.

The workers of iniquity

Have touched the apple of God’s eye.

They walk as fools who don’t foresee

The judgment coming when they die.

Our God is grieved by sinners hardened

Who scorn the wisdom He would give,

Who will not choose to thus be pardoned

By trusting Christ, so they might live.

How Welcome is His Word!

Read:  Psalm 52 / Proverbs 15 / Zechariah 1 / Mark 2

Psalm 52:9 ~ I will praise thee forever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

Proverbs 15:23 ~ A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

Zechariah 1:3 ~ Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.

Mark 2:17 ~ When Jesus heard it, he saith… They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

The work that saves us has been done

By Christ who purchased our salvation.

There is no other, no not one,

Who rescues us from condemnation!

How welcome is His word in season

That clears the guilty sinner’s sentence,

As we declare the joyful reason

To turn to Christ with true repentance!

Joy in Jesus

Read:  Psalm 51 / Proverbs 14 / Haggai 2 / Mark 1

Psalm 51:12,13 ~ Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

Proverbs 14:25 ~ A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

Haggai 2:4 ~ Yet now be strong… saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts.

Mark 1:17 ~ And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

When joy in Jesus is restored,

We are prepared to reach the lost

As we are following our Lord

Who died to pay salvation’s cost.

The Lord commands us to be strong

As we are working in His field,

For He is leading us along,

And He shall be our Strength and Shield.

We Praise whom We Proclaim

Read:  Psalm 50 / Proverbs 13 / Haggai 1 / Matthew 28

Psalm 50:14,15 ~ Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the Most High: and call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

Proverbs 13:17 ~ A faithful ambassador is health.

Haggai 1:7,8 ~ Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways... build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.

Matthew 28:19,20 ~ Go ye therefore, and teach all nations… and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

With adoration and thanksgiving,

We praise the Lord whom we proclaim:

Because He lives, we too are living

To daily glorify His name.

As His ambassadors, we’re sent

To teach His Word to every nation,

Persuading sinners who repent

To trust in Christ for their salvation.

Greater than the Grave

Read:  Psalm 49 / Proverbs 12 / Zephaniah 3 / Matthew 27

Psalm 49:15 ~ But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.

Proverbs 12:28 ~ In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

Zephaniah 3:17 ~ The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Matthew 27:63-65 ~ Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again… Command… that the sepulcher be made sure until the third day… Pilate said… Go your way, make it as sure as ye can.

The power of our great Creator

Is stronger than the deadly tomb.

The triumph of our Lord is greater

Than death and all its dreadful gloom.

There is a Savior we behold

Who is far greater than the grave.

His resurrection was foretold;

He kept the promise that He gave.

Contemplating Christ

Read:  Psalm 48 / Proverbs 11 / Zephaniah 2 / Matthew 26

Psalm 48:9,14 ~ We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple… For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.

Proverbs 11:3 ~ The integrity of the upright shall guide them.

Zephaniah 2:3 ~ Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth… seek righteousness, seek meekness.

Matthew 26:53 ~ Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

When we are contemplating Christ

And pondering His loving actions,

Our hearts shall not then be enticed

To turn aside to vain distractions.

Consider Christ who did not call

For angels ready in their ranks,

But rather gave His life for all.

Let us adore Him, giving thanks!

Searching how we Sing

Read:  Psalm 47 / Proverbs 10 / Zephaniah 1 / Matthew 25

Psalm 47:6,7 ~ Sing praises to God… For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.

Proverbs 10:13 ~ In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found.

Zephaniah 1:7 ~ Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand.

Matthew 25:34 ~ Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

Sing praises to our God and King

As Scripture rightly is commanding.

The Lord is searching how we sing;

Let wisdom guide our understanding.

Be still and know that we are spared

By Christ who for our sake was cursed.

Our place in heaven is prepared

Because our Savior loved us first.

Study in Stillness

Read:  Psalm 46 / Proverbs 9 / Habakkuk 3 / Matthew 24

Psalm 46:10 ~ Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Proverbs 9:13 ~ A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.

Habakkuk 3:18 ~ Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

Matthew 24:4 ~ Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

Be still to hear the voice of God.

There is no other way to know

What is the truth or what is flawed,

As study in His Word will show.

In quiet study, we rejoice

In Christ our Lord whom we received.

In stillness, let us hear His voice,

Lest otherwise we be deceived.

Read and Run

Read:  Psalm 45 / Proverbs 8 / Habakkuk 2 / Matthew 23

Psalm 45:1 ~ I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

Proverbs 8:1 ~ Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

Habakkuk 2:2-4 ~ Write the vision, and make it plain… that he may run that readeth it… the just shall live by his faith.

Matthew 23:37 ~ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

Of saving grace we speak and write

So those who hear may read and run

Into the darkness with the light

That shines above the noonday sun.

By saving faith the just shall live

Who choose to heed the Savior’s call,

Receiving Christ who died to give

His ransom offered to us all.
