God our Guard and Guide

"We have thought of Thy lovingkindness, O God… This God is our God forever and ever: He will be our Guide even unto death" (Psalm 48:9,14).  "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God… What shall we then say to these things?  If God be for us, who can be against us?... Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect?  It is God that justifieth.  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again… who also maketh intercession for us" (Romans 8:14,31-34).

Come, let us think about the love
That caused our God to be our Savior.
Descending from His throne above,
He died to grant His saving favor.

We rightly think about the past
To praise the Savior we adore,
Yet Christ shall come again at last;
He is alive forevermore!

What shall we say then to these things
As by His Spirit we are led?
We're guarded now beneath the wings
Of Christ now risen from the dead.

We thank You, God, our Guard and Guide,
Though foes may stand up with aggression,
By You we yet are justified,
And for us You make intercession.

Shielded from Shame

"Now when Mephibosheth (Heb. breathing shame)… was come unto David… David said unto him, Fear not… thou shalt eat bread at my table continually" (2 Samuel 9:6,7).  "O clap your hands, all ye people… for the shields of the earth belong unto God: He is greatly exalted" (Psalm 47:1,9).  "He is a Shield unto them that put their trust in Him" (Proverbs 30:5).  "O wretched man that I am!  Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 7:24,25).

Mephibosheth to David came,
For he would eat at David's table.
The king would shield him from shame
As he had promised and was able.

We see a portrait of our Savior
Who shields us from shame as well,
For all who trust in Him find favor
From Christ who rescues us from hell.

O clap your hands to thus applaud
Our Lord who was victorious!
The shields of our gracious God
Protecting us are glorious!

We thank You, Lord of our salvation,
For dying for us on the cross
To shield us from condemnation,
From shame, and from eternal loss!

Davidic Dominion

"David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley... And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people" (2 Samuel 8:13,15).  "The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: He uttered his voice, the earth melted… Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth" (Psalm 46:6-10).  "Sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace" (Romans 6:14).

In David's kingdom we can see
The shadow of much greater things
When Christ shall reign in majesty
As Lord of lords and King of kings.

The Lord exalted David's throne
To manifest His own dominion
And make a name that would be known,
Refuting every false opinion.

"Be still" our God has said to us,
For He shall surely be exalted.
The Lord shall reign victorious
When all His enemies are halted.

O Lord, now come and reign within,
Extending Your Davidic reign
By Your dominion over sin
As grace enlarges Your domain!

Access to the Almighty

"What can David say more unto Thee?... There is none like Thee, neither is there any God beside Thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears" (2 Samuel 7:20-22).  "He is thy Lord; and worship thou Him" (Psalm 45:11).  "They that seek the LORD understand all things" (Proverbs 28:5).  "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God" (Romans 5:1,2).

What more could David say to God
In view of what the Lord made known?
Should men like us who are so flawed
Have access to His hallowed throne?

Come worship Him and seek the face
Of Christ our Lord, the King of kings,
Who gives us access to His grace
To make us understand all things.

We understand each molecule
(With all its subatomic parts)
Is subject to our Savior's rule,
Who is enthroned in humble hearts.

Almighty God, what can we say
As we, by grace, such access claim?
Receive our joyful thanks today
As we draw near to praise Your name.

Glory to God

"In God we boast all the day long, and praise Thy name forever" (Psalm 44:8).  "Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth... A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished" (Proverbs 27:1,12).  "Giving glory to God… we believe on Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification" (Romans 4:20,24,25).

We boast in our God all day long,
And not in our feeble endeavor.
Let this be our unending song:
To God be the glory forever!

We boast not ourselves of tomorrow,
But glory in what God has planned,
Who gives us each breath that we borrow,
And holds all our times in His hand.

How graciously God will provide
The safety of His Hiding Place
In Christ, who for sinners has died
To ransom our souls by His grace!

To You be all glory, O God,
Who authored our justification!
We worship with all who applaud
And praise You for so great salvation.
