Surest Shield

"Thou art my Hiding Place and my Shield: I hope in Thy word" (Psalm 119:114).  "Every word of God is pure: He is a Shield unto them that put their trust in Him" (Proverbs 30:5).  "Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for Me" (Jeremiah 32:27).  "By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house" (Hebrews 11:7).

There is no safer hiding place
Than Christ, whom God's Word has revealed,
Who rescues with His saving grace
All those who trust Him as their Shield.

Since every word of God is pure
And nothing is too hard for Him,
He is our Shield, strong and sure,
Though we are weak and sight is dim.

As clouded skies are growing dark
With promised judgment drawing near,
We are as Noah in the ark
Which he prepared with godly fear.

Our Surest Shield, Lord, is You,
Our Savior risen from the dead!
The wisest thing that we can do
Is trust in all that You have said.

Changing Times and Changeless Truth

"I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes always, even unto the end" (Psalm 119:112).  "The fear of man bringeth a snare... Many seek the ruler's favor; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD" (Proverbs 29:25,26).  "I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee" (Jeremiah 31:3).  "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith... Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering" (Hebrew 10:22,23).

The changing times in which we live
Insist that we should change our mind,
Exchanging counsel God would give
For trends which leave His Word behind.

It's time to fear the Lord alone
And not to seek this world's favor.
We're called to make His Gospel known
And point the lost to Christ our Savior.

With cords of everlasting love,
We have been drawn by Jesus Christ.
He left His majesty above
And for our sakes was sacrificed.

Lord, yesterday, today, forever
Your changeless truth remains the same.
The changing times on earth shall never
Negate the Gospel we proclaim.

Approaching our Appointment

"Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way" (Psalm 119:104).  "Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things" (Proverbs 28:5).  "Who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto Me? saith the LORD" (Jeremiah 30:21).  "As it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27).

Through precepts given by the Lord,
We see there is a consequence
Whenever God's way is ignored
And souls abandon His defense.

The holiness of God demands
That judgment must be satisfied.
The one who seeks Him understands
The reason Christ our Savior died.

Approaching our appointed end
That draws us closer to the grave
Should cause us all to comprehend
That none but Jesus Christ can save!

We are engaged, Lord, to pursue
Your heart as we approach by grace
With our appointment yet in view
When we shall see You face to face!

Solace in the Settled

"Forever, O LORD, thy Word is settled in heaven" (Psalm 119:89).  "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end... And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:11,13).  "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more" (Hebrews 8:12).

How good it is to know forever
That God has settled what He said!
We do not rest in our endeavor,
But in His faithfulness instead.

The Lord declares to us His thought
To give us an expected end.
Though human plans may come to naught,
Upon God's Word we can depend.

He manifests His thoughts of peace
To all who truly seek His face.
Our praise to Him shall never cease
As we explore His wondrous grace.

We find our solace, Lord, in You;
Your Word is settled and is proved.
Your mercies are forever true
By which our sins have been removed!

Cure for the Curse

"Quicken me after Thy lovingkindness" (Psalm 119:88 ).  "The curse causeless shall not come" (Proverbs 26:2).  "Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He... offered up Himself.  (Hebrews 7:25,27).

Our spirit's case could not be worse:
We were not merely sick, but dead.
It was our sin which brought the curse;
How bleak our prospect was ahead!

The curse could not be swept away
As if it had no valid cause,
For all of us had gone astray;
We all had broken heaven's laws.

Our Savior brought the remedy
That purged iniquity as dross,
Removing sin eternally
By dying for us on the cross!

You met our curse, Lord, with Your cure
For which You paid an awful price!
We thank You that You would endure
The cross to be our Sacrifice!
